Today is Monday, March 29, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

Yesterday was the culmination of week seven of the marathon training plan, and my first of three scheduled twenty-mile runs. Twenty miles is traditionally (and it holds true in my case as well) the longest mileage run in the marathon training plan, but I have never done one this early in the schedule. Hopefully adding one in at this point will help me improve on last year’s time, as I am getting more mileage in overall, with three twenty-milers instead of just two, and more of the high-mileage runs earlier in the plan.

Today is Tuesday, March 23, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

A great day for a run, actually; after this weekend’s cold snap, temps were back up in to the fifties and the sun was out. I did my Tuesday two-mile easy run, and enjoyed it the whole way. No interesting stories to tell, although afterward, when I was stretching in the gym, my friend/co-worker Nick was picking my brain about my run today and my running in general, because he and another co-worker had just made plans to start running outside together since it is nice out. I’ve been having more and more conversations with co-workers about running lately; probably because it is on people’s minds now that it is getting nice enough to make people want to get outside and do stuff after being inside all winter. Also, I am still actively pursuing getting people signed up for my work Crazylegs team, so I’ve been putting the bug in people’s collective ear, so to speak. Anyway, I told him I would share some courses I have laid out around work.

Today is Sunday, March 14, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

Happy Daylight Saving Time. The loss of an hour doesn’t really hit my radar right now, because of the fact that my sleep is pretty unreliable anyway. That’s how it goes when there’s an eight-month-old in the room. Fortunately Sunday is my sleep-in day, so I got extra sleep time, regardless of what the clock said when I got up.

It was such a beautiful day today; easily the nicest day of the year so far. The sun was shining, and the temperature was right around fifty degrees. There was a little bit of wind, but it was a spring wind, so it seemed pleasant anyway. At least it did until I was running in to it.

Today is Tuesday, March 02, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

I haven’t written in a while, because life intervenes. Last night I spoke to my sister on the phone and we both lamented our lack of Olympics to watch, and how that means now we actually have to get back to doing the things we were supposed to be doing all along that the Olympics distracted us from. You know, like work. Henry still asks to watch them, even though I was telling him a few days before the closing ceremonies that they would be over soon and not be back again for a very long time. So I guess I’d better get back to writing in a timely fashion. But there are always other things to distract me. Like the rest of the internet.

Today is Monday, February 22, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

Yesterday was long run day, and the last day of week two of marathon training. For once, the run wasn’t the sole focus of my day, because it was a day that I had marked on the calendar for months: the Iowa-Wisconsin wrestling dual in Madison.

I haven’t gotten to see the Hawkeye wrestlers in person since they came to Madison two years ago for this dual, and this year Iowa wrestling has just been tearing through opponents, especially in the big ten, which is hands-down the best wrestling conference in the country. So I’ve been looking forward to it for a while. I was not going to miss it, but of course, I’m not about to miss my long run either. So to accommodate both, I planned to head out almost right away when I got up, so I could be done in time to get to the meet.

Today is Tuesday, February 16, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

I did run today, but I’ll get to that later; I still haven’t written about Sunday’s long run, and here it is already Tuesday. Let me say this: it is hard for me to get any writing done when the Olympics are going on. As it is I don’t have a lot of time to write, anyway, given that I’m working most of the day, and then spending time with the kids after work, I really only get the chance between their bedtime and mine; usually about a couple of hours. And of course there are plenty of other things competing for my attention during that span, as well; as it stands right now, one of those things happens to be watching winter sports.

Today is Sunday, February 07, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

There are illnesses afoot in my household, and while I have so far managed to dodge the infectious, child-borne bullets, I feel that I may still be grazed by them. Last night was a difficult one (although admittedly less for me than my admirable wife) as our youngest son slept only in short bursts due to the cough that kept waking him, and consequently, us. I was lucky that today was my sleep-in day, as we trade off our weekend mornings between the two of us when we have the chance, and Sunday is my morning, since I get up and let her sleep in on Saturdays. It works out well for me, since Sundays are also my long run days, to give me that extra bit of rest in preparation. Tomorrow morning, I will not have that luxury, however.

Today is Sunday, January 31, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

My first run outside in two weeks was today, and my first long run with the loose shoe strategy. On the one hand, my confidence has been increasing ever since my runs have become less troublesome. On the other hand, the idea of a big setback is still looming in my mind. So I was very nervous going out there today, but at the same time, I was tightening up my laces a little more than before to see if there would be any improvement.

Today is Monday, January 25, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

No run today though; strength training day on Monday as usual. I didn’t write yesterday night because I was busy watching the Vikings fumbling their trip to the Super Bowl away. The Vikes have never been to the Super Bowl in my lifetime, but I have had the pleasure of watching them lose four NFC championship games now. At least two of which, including this one, they should have won. On the other hand, the Hawkeye wrestlers shut out Michigan in the Big Ten opener and then won eight of ten matches at Purdue this weekend. But hey, isn’t this supposed to be about running?

Today is Sunday, January 17, 2010, and it is a good day for a run.

I haven’t written in a while, because I haven’t run in a while. This is not due to anything sensible, like the weather, or a lack of time and opportunity; no, this is because of my stupid heel. As before, it still feels 100% fine when I am not wearing shoes, and hurts when I am wearing them. I was able to avoid shoes for most of the week, and when I wore them, it was getting a little better every day, but so frustratingly gradually that it put me in a serious funk.
